Plate Carriers and Armor! This topic gets brought up a lot and folks seem to hyper fixate on it. While I focus a lot on Patrolling, observation, and fieldcraft kit I do have body armor for when the situation dictates its use.
Everyone wants the cool dude look but mission dictates gear. If your threat/risk analysis says no armor, then no armor. If your threat/risk analysis says you need armor, then armor up.
What may work for static defense or vehicle operations may not work in steep terrain or over long distances on foot! Plus wearing armor for long periods means you need to feed the effort you're exerting to wear it. This means consuming more fluids, eating more foods, taking more rest breaks. In warm weather heat exhaustion becomes very real, very quickly. So if you're not doing these things then now you're going to become a liability.
So how do I have my PC setup? Let's go through it.
-LAPG Low Viz Plate Carrier w/level III steel plates and spall blockers
-Krydex MK3 Micro Fight chest rig w/
*AR mags x3
*Trauma shears
*Stuck casing removal tool
In front pouch
*Swiss Army Knife
*Light w/red lens
*Compass
*Rite in Rain notebook w/pencil
*Lighter
*Sharpie
*Chemlight
-Krydex Dangler Pouch w/
*Snacks
*Booboo kit
*Israeli Bandage
*TQ
*Chemlights
-On Cumberbund
*Radio
Some things I really like about the carrier is its scalability. The placard is removable and can be worn slick and concealed if need be. The elastic cumberbund has 4 slots on it to carry medical gear, Rifle mags, or a radio.
As with any gear assess your needs, your priorities, your threat assessments, and set your gear up accordingly. Most of all, get out and train in it. IG and YT pictures are cool and all but if you're not putting in the work in it then you're not doing anyone any good.
